The Friendly Face Of Winter Activities | NEWS
AROUND THIS time of year many are contemplating taking a winter holiday. Increasingly members of the community are looking to get involved in winter sports. One man that has seen a gap in the market is Darryl George who heads up the innovative Urban Shredderz initiative.
George told the Voice of Sport: “As a person of Pan African heritage, I grew up inspired by the movie Cool Runnings and I always wanted to try winter activities and defy cultural stereotypes; with snowboarding peaking my interest.
“So, after having an amazing experience at Snowboxx 2017; I decided to start Urban Shredderz as a living embodiment of defying cultural myths and showcase a narrative of diversity on the slopes!
“Urban Shredderz is a collective of winter sport enthusiasts who want to meet and bring together like minded people, with the aim of enjoying the thrill of the slopes.
“Whether you’re a snowboarder, skier; beginner, intermediate or advance, Urban Shredderz welcomes you.
“We want to encourage those of Pan African heritage and other cultures, who have always wanted to try snowboarding or skiing but always felt they would never fi t in or didn’t know where to begin.
“We aim to be that friendly face of winter activities and reshape the definition of the ‘norm’ by sharing our experiences. We believe in inclusivity and diversity so we embrace those of all nationalities, ethnicities and cultures.
“We will share upcoming events, festivals and our personal journey on the slopes throughout the winter season.”
